Observation and Assessment (O&A)
Observation and Assessment provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment planning. Youths receive extensive psychological, behavioral, social, educational, and physical assessments to identify their needs for services.
Facts About Observation and Assessment
- A 45-day residential program for delinquent youth placed in the custody of JJS for evaluation, assessment, and treatment planning.
- O&A must be ordered by a Juvenile Court Judge and includes the following services and activities:
- skill building groups
- recreation
- community service projects
- individualized educational programs
- counseling
- assessment, evaluation and testing
- treatment planning
- Information from the O&A assessments is used to make recommendations to the Juvenile Court and Case Management.
- Youth attend school while in O&A. Work finished in O&A classrooms is credited to a youth’s regular academic record.
- O&A provides a chance for youth to meet their court-ordered requirements to perform community service and make restitution to victims.
